Contempory Jazz:
As far as my Dance class goes i will be concentrating on a mix of Jazz and contemporary elements. I will be using elements from yoga and Martial Arts to warm and prepare the body for movement. I will be focusing on basic stepping movements done in a flowing manner, including moving from the back of the room doing traveling movements involving leg work and turns, incorporating swift changes of direction. We shall explore the use of gesture within the end section of the class. Over the course of the week we will build up a small chreography which will contain all that we have worked on in the classes.
Shadow Yoga:
Shadow Yoga is a Hatha Yoga based style founded by Shandor Remete. It involves the use of Asian Martial Arts and Indian Southern School of Dance to prepare the body safely for the Basic Yoga posture and flowing Forms. We will be working on the first form called BALAKRAMA (stepping into strength) which includes strong leg work combined with flowing upper body and arm gestures. The main aim is to free the body of it's blockages so as to allow the free flow of Prana throughout the energy system and so allowing the body and mind to enter a state of meditation while in movement or in a seated position. I hope to teach the full form over during the course and then to introduce some basic ASANA (body positions) to open the physical and energetic body further. At the end of the class a standing meditation will be done to consolidate the freed up Prana. This form of Yoga is highly recommended to Dancers of all styles, but is also open to non dancers.
